The Johnson family has been in the
cattle business at the same location since the early 1920's.
Jan's grandfather, James Baxter Johnson, was the first owner
of the farm and was followed by his son Ralph Johnson in the
50's and 60's.
Mainly a commercial operation for
most of those years, Jan started and operated a registered
Angus herd for a few years in the 70's and early 80's.
After the dispersal of the Angus
herd, Kelly, Jeff, and Brandon concentrated on showing
steers. In Brandon's last 4-H years, Chiangus heifers
were added to the show string, and three of these heifers
became foundation animals for the beginning of RiverBend
Chiangus in 1995. The herd now consists of approximately
50 Chiangus and Angus cows.
RiverBend is a proud breeder of
Chiangus cattle and believe that chi genetics produce the kind
of cattle needed in today's market and will continue to meet
these needs well into the future. RiverBend cattle are bred
with the commercial as well as the purebred breeder in mind.
Look for the JRBF prefix the next time you buy cattle.
